Edward R. Langston, Jr.
Ed Langston brings to PAL thirty-one years of experience in
a wide variety of increasing responsibilities that culminated
in his retirement from the U. S. Marine Corps as a Brigadier
General. His diversified background in operations and planning
included positions of leadership, staff development, and budget
execution. In his last assignment as the Deputy Assistant Secretary
of the Navy (Research, Development, and Acquisition), Expeditionary
Forces Programs, he was the senior Marine and principal advisor
to the Assistant Secretary on Marine Corps Ground programs.
He also provided advice on expeditionary warfare requirements
and acquisition plans and policies for amphibious shipping
and aviation procurement.
Ed accumulated over 5600 hours of accident-free flight time
ranging from combat to humanitarian relief operations. He served
in commands at all levels of the Marine Corps operational forces
from the squadron to Marine Expeditionary Force level. Major
tours include combat in Vietnam, Flight Instructor in the Naval
Training Command, and Executive Officer of The Basic School
in Quantico, Virginia. Command tours included HMH-463 (heavy
helicopter squadron) and the Presidential Helicopter Squadron,
where he served as the personal helicopter pilot for President
Bush. As a general officer, he served as the Deputy Commanding
General of I MEF and as the Commanding General of a large logistics
command.
In his previous assignments, Ed was responsible for training,
managing, and coordinating organizations ranging from 450-48,000
Marines and sailors for worldwide combat operations. Some of
these organizations were in combat over Bosnia, in Somalia,
and in Kuwait. He directed all personnel, logistics, flight
and maintenance operations for Navy and Marine Corps units
deploying to the Persian Gulf on amphibious shipping and contingency
operations.
He continues his professional participation with organizations
such as the Marine Corps Association, Marine Corps Aviation
Association, U.S. Naval Institute, and the American Helicopter
Society.
Ed holds a M.S. degree in Business Management from Salve Regina
College and a M.A. degree in National Security and Strategic
Studies from the Naval War College. Ed graduated from the United
States Naval Academy, and is a graduate of the Air War College
as well.
